Free hedgehog screensaver

This great screensaver works with Windows XP and Windows 2000.  It does not work on older versions of Windows or Macs. 

To get this screensaver  click on the link at the bottom of this section and save it onto your computer.  This will take as little as 15 seconds if you have a fast 2Mb broadband connection, 1 minute for a 512kb broadband connection or longer than 10 minutes if you are using a dial up connection. When download is complete double click on the downloaded file.  Then presss "Run" to see a preview of the screensaver or "Install" to add it to your computer.

HogWatch is being coordinated by Royal Holloway University of London and is funded by the People’s Trust for Endangered Species & the British Hedgehog Preservation Society. Data will be held and used by all parties and will not be passed on to any other organisation for any purpose.

Downloading and installing the screensaver.

Only download this screensaver if you are running Windows 2000 or Windows XP.

The general advice given in this note may not be applicable to your machine if your computer has been set up in particular ways or if you use particular security software.

We believe our screensaver is safe but it is always advisable to run an up to date anti-virus software on any computer and check any screensavers or other programs you download from the internet.

When you click on 'Download screensaver now' you may see a dialogue indicating it is dangerous to download programs unless you are sure of their origin. Allow the download to proceed and save the file onto your computer. Accept the default name for the file - 'HedgehogScreensaver.exe'.
Double click the file you have downloaded. You may be advised that you should not run programs unless they are known to be safe. Allow the program to start. You will then see a small window which allows you to 'Run', 'Install' or 'Cancel'. If you click 'Run' you will see a preview of the screensaver which will disappear as soon as you move the mouse or press a key. To install the screensaver on your machine press the 'Install' button and accept all defaults you are offered.

To adjust how soon the screensaver starts up on your computer start the Control Panel from the Start menu. Select 'Display' in Control Panel and then the 'Screensaver' tab from where you can configure your new screensaver.
